Charles Alexandre Lesueur, artist and naturalist, was born on January 1, 1778, at Le Havre, France. He participated in Napoleon's expedition to Australia (1800-1804), and joined William Maclure in his geologic survey of Europe, the West Indies and the Eastern United States (1815-1817).
